This thing is fascinating. I love to watch it wandering around its aquarium, rearranging the gravel. It's like a tiny little alien.
Danny brought it home from school in June with instructions to give it a place to hide and to change the water in its container once a week. For a while that worked okay; then we got a bigger container and changing the water was more of a pain so it was done a lot less frequently than that.
Today we emptied the tank, scrubbed the gravel, and refilled it with two and a half inches of distilled water. I want to get a filter for the tank, but I haven't been able to find one that works in shallow water. I had a crayfish a long time ago that used to climb up on to the filter and dive off it, over and over again.
I was so sad when that thing died. I didn't know then that they only live a few years, and that one was big enough that it must have been near the end of its lifespan when I got it.
This one is a bit smaller, so maybe it'll hang around amusing me for a bit longer.
I should look a little harder for a filter.
