I just harvested the first zucchini, washed its prickly skin smooth, and sliced it into little chunks to cook up for supper.

It's silly how weird this feels, taking a vegetable from a plant in the yard and actually eating it. It never occurs to me to wonder if the veggies I buy at the supermarket are okay to eat.

I planted a seed. I tended a plant. I know where this thing has been every moment of its existence.

I can't wait for dinner.

Please, whatever you do, when you are totally overwhelmed by just how much zucchini you have and are desperate not to waste it, please, please, please do not resort to zucchini brownies. I can tell you from experience that is a waste of both the chocolate and the zucchini. :-) Congrats on successfully growing edible food. It's totally awesome.

Ooh, something new to do with zucchini? Do you have a good recipe? I keep hearing I'm going to need them... :)

...

My sister has a recipe for zucchini chocolate cake she claims is good. Somehow "zucchini" and "chocolate" don't seem to belong together.

I know I don't comment most - my bad because I do read. And every word sounds like poetry. You could easily be a professional writer!

That's awesome. I admire people who have the time and patience to garden.

Haha, I thought it was you. If you can get your family recipe that would be great. I do have yellow squash -- at least for the moment. I feel like any second now that poor stem is going to snap, but for now the leaves and fruits look pretty healthy.
