Shoveling snow really sucks. Shoveling slush is even worse, but I spent a good part of the afternoon doing just that. It was either break my back today or break my neck tomorrow when the driveway froze to a sheet of solid ice four inches thick.

Oh, and school was canceled today. Personally I don't think it was that bad out there, but I suppose better safe than sorry. If this keeps up, though, the kids won't get summer vacation until July.

For more than one reason, no doubt -- Hudson is about 15 minutes from Maynard. ;)

Anyway, this was 3 inches of snow soaked with 6 hours of rain, so I was standing in the rain shoveling slush. I can't imagine anyone would like that!

Some of us do actually get a strange joy from back-breaking labour. Seriously, it's weird, but it's true. This is the same reason I like to run in snow that averages out to be about up to mid-calf height. Like, leg calves, not like... tiny cows... 'cause that would just be crazy.

Anyway. Yes, the proximity of Hudson to Maynard had also occurred to me. I think, "Mrrr" about covers /that/, right now.

I would rather shovel it in the rain than when it's -10°F out, which is what I have been doing. You know the procedure, shovel 15 minutes, go in until you can feel your fingertips, then shovel 15 minutes more.

Actually I discovered if you take test the feeling in your fingertips with a bottle of beer, you end up leaving the shovelling until the following morning.....
