mereilinFor a change, I feel kind of competent. It's a nice feeling.
I pulled off a surprise for my husband's 50th birthday -- the first surprise party he's ever had. I got the house presentable for the in-laws to come over for Dan's birthday the following weekend. I replaced my husband's dead car with a much nicer one in less than 48 hours, and despite the fact that it was a PMS week I didn't even spiral into a tailspin over it.
The house is still actually kind of presentable -- as in I wouldn't feel particularly embarrassed if someone dropped by to visit -- and I've been keeping up with dishes and laundry. The kids make it to school on time every day, clean and fed and mostly prepared, and they're getting to their after-school activities. Play dates are happening.
And tomorrow I'm taking Dan and a friend to a museum as a late birthday treat, which he is satisfied to accept in lieu of a full-on "kid birthday party." I'm actually a little sorry I couldn't pull off the latter as it would have been his first. He's always been content with family birthday parties.
So there it is. The trick will be to make it last through Nutcracker season.
