My amazing little boy (who is not so little anymore) dashed downstairs this afternoon because he wanted to share the sunset with me. "Doesn't it look like the sky is on fire?" he asked excitedly. And it really, really did. The whole southwestern sky blazed red and orange, the naked branches of the winter-dead trees silhouetted against it. We went upstairs together to decide which of the windows had the best view, finally hanging together out the window of his bedroom to watch the colors fade.

I hope he never loses the desire to share such things with his mother. :)

Moments like that are a true blessing. Some of my fondest memories with my mom are things like that. I once woke up to the sound of her sewing my Halloween costume at 2am, after she had woken up early for work, made dinner, helped me with homework, and read me a book before tucking me in. I think that's what inspired me to learn how to sew. Who knows what your sunset moment might inspire him to do in his life? :-)
