And once again we make the annual pilgrimage to Fall River to perform in the beloved holiday blah, blah, blah. After 20 years (for me -- closeer to 30 for my husband!) it loses a little of its luster. Somewhere down deep we still love it, or we certainly wouldn't be doing it, but it's always a tough December. While other folks are shopping, wrapping, and decorating, we're schlepping from theater to theater, spending money on gas and takeout, all for the love of the Art. Yup, we're nuts. (Nutcracker joke, get it? XD)

I actually thought I was going to have a fairly light schedule -- after my foot injury last year I'm coming back slowly, and I'm really only dancing three roles. Some shows, I'm not dancing at all. Most shows I'll be doing one of the three. Today I'm doing two in the first show, and nothing in the second. Casting is very complicated.

On top of the usual complications, I seem to have come down with some sort of holiday plague. I was sniffling during Thanksgiving dinner, but I felt fine so I assumed I was sensitive to my sister-in-law's dog (which mercifully spent the afternoon outside). By the time we got home I was sneezing uncontrollably, and by the time I went to bed it was clear that this was no allergic reaction.

Friday I'd planned to finish up my transcription workload, but I ended up spiking a fever and feeling so spectacularly crappy that I spent all of half an hour with headphones on. I sent a halfhearted email to the office Friday morning asking if any of the jobs might be reassigned, but two days later I still haven't received a reply. Not that I really expected anyone to be available this weekend. So I brought the laptop backstage during dress rehearsal and spent my downtime transcribing, and stayed up last night until 1:30 finishing up the stuff that was due Sunday morning.

There was just one left, with a 4:00 deadline -- Pacific time, which I figured meant I could get some sleep, focus on the shows today, and maybe turn it in within an hour of the actual deadline. I clicked on the work order to send a quick note to the office letting them know there might be a slight delay... and that's when I noticed that the due date was not Sunday, like all the others... it was last Friday.

I had deliberately saved it until last because I thought it had the latest deadline. Now it's two days late. Two DAYS! I've never turned in anything this late. To be fair, though, no one has tried to contact me desperately looking for the transcript. So instead of a status update I sent an apology and an explanation. I guess I'll see what happens.

Now I have to figure out my makeup for the show. I thought I was only doing the bratty brother role because I read the casting list wrong. Hm, attention to detail much? I thought I was pretty good at that. I'm going to plead Temporary Insanity: there are something like 20 pages of casting for 11 shows over four weeks, and I had 14 work orders in my inbox simultaneously, when I usually only have four or fewer.

Excuses, excuses. :(

Anyway. I don't have "girl" makeup because I thought I had another week to pull that together. Now I have two hours until theater call, minus an hour's drive to the theater. There's a CVS near the theater, at least.

Time to rustle the kids out of bed and grab a quick shower.

Happy holiday tradition!
