Yes, I realize I didn't post anything about leaving. I'm a little paranoid that way, in case there was anything worth breaking into my house to steal. Hahahaha.
Anyway, we drove the 500 miles back in 8.5 hours, even with heavy traffic in Connecticut. The roads were dry, the sky was mostly clear, and the traffic (except for Connecticut) wasn't bad. I prefer driving across New York but the weather up north was looking iffy so we took our chances with the traffic.
We were home before 7:00, which for us is pretty epic. The cat had a chance to express his annoyance and re-bond with his "daddy," and I actually cooked something resembling dinner before settling back with a glass of wine to catch up online.
I did have access over the weekend, but it was a pretty weak signal. Also I had to work while I was there because of the way my deadlines fell. I don't want to turn away work just now, with unemployment gone and a very meager buffer in the savings account. Things don't look too dire yet, though, and if luck goes our way (we're due for a change of tide) we may be able to pull things back together before February.
Also there was only one day in December that I lost my equilibrium and couldn't stop crying, and I can't think of any days in November. Actually i feel stupidly good, all things considered.
I did leave all of the cookies at my parents' place. I had meant to take a few home, and I had certainly intended to bring home our Tupperware container, but they can eat the cookies and I can get the container next time. And now I have an excuse to bake more. It looks like there is a big storm coming in Thursday just in time for the kids to go back to school after Christmas break -- they certainly won't mind a snow day. A nice warm oven and a kitchen full of cookies sounds pretty perfect.
