Sadie is watching Dr. Doolittle, a scene on a remote island where the heroine sings one of her litany of overlong songs about her unrequited love.

Suddenly I hear Sadie say, "Why don't you just kiss him?"

I love the way she gets to the point.

There's a scene like this in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, too -- the winsome soprano pours out her heart in a random, action-killing song ("Oh What A Lovely Lonely Man"). Even in the original Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory we're tormented with mom warbling "Cheer Up Charlie" as she paddles gray laundry in a huge steaming tub and generally looks poor and overworked.

Ah, musical movie shows of the '70s. How I love them.

Do you have any favorite moments to share? Awesome or groanworthy -- I want to know what I might be missing. :)

You're awful! Suddenly I have a picture of Dr. Who in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Arrrrrgh! My brain!

I always loved "The Slipper and the Rose" which usually gets slammed for terrible lyrics and Richard Chamberlain being too old to be the Prince. A guilty pleasure - this was one of my favourite songs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEmPMgNoWOY (The song kicks off at the 5:30 mark if you don't want to watch the bit before it.)

And if we are talking about gratuitous romance don't forget to let yourself be pointed to [livejournal.com profile] harlequinknight for a bit of a giggle. Join the community and lets create a monster!!

I love that movie too! As a teenager, I thought that song was so tragically romantic. I have it on DVD and watch it at least once a year, although now I'm more a fan for protocoligorically (sp?) correct.

Such lovely movie moments! I think my favorite is Eliza Dolittle at the racetrack after Professor Higgins had been working on her speech. She shouts out in vaguely refined English "MOVE YOUR RUDDY ARSE!" to the riders! And more in that movie, anything from "Just you wait 'enry 'iggens, just you wait!" Oh how I loved that! You've probably seen it, it's just one of my favorites. Also "The Inspector General" with Danny Kaye.
