Oct. 8th, 2009 03:45 pmI stopped in at school today, ostensibly to do some shelving in the library but really to stick my head into the psychologist's office and make sure the emails were delivered. She assured me they were, and remarked that Daniel's teacher had never even seen his 504 plan. Apparently she had no idea he was even supposed to have accommodations.
What a wake-up call. We got a new principal and he moved to a classroom down the hall from his old one. What's going to happen next year when he actually changes over to middle school?
Anyway, I stopped in his classroom just to let him know that he could ride home with me instead of catching the bus, since it was almost the end of the day. His teacher was very apologetic about not having responded to yesterday's email; I assured her I wasn't expecting a response today because I knew the entire 5th grade was on an all-day field trip. No mention at all of the previous three emails that didn't receive a reply, but at least now I know they were sent to the right address.
She said she knows he's been reading -- by her guess it's about 2 hours a night -- and that he hasn't been writing it down. She also mentioned that his writing has been quite good, which is nice. I'm not at all sure he's doing what's required of him, and I'm not even looking to shake things up or make anyone's life harder -- I just don't want any unpleasant surprises when the other shoe drops.
So we'll see, I guess.
