I wish I could just kiss my kids goodnight at 9:00, spend an hour or so unwinding, and go to bed. Why, WHY does it take hours and hours and hours to finish simple homework assignments?

Wouldn't it be nice, I asked them tonight, if we could get homework done before dinner, clean up the kitchen after and relax for a while before bed? Watch a TV show together, or play a board game, or go for a walk around the neighborhood? Why do we have to spend all afternoon and evening in conflict and chaos, go to sleep too late, and get up too early the next morning to do it all again?

Perhaps it's time to set limits on time spent on homework. I made the mistake of thinking it was the most important thing to get done for a long time. Spending time together relaxing is good for the soul and the family. Let them take the consequences at school, where the problem belongs. Home is family.
